Evaluation number 2

On the right is the photo which i took for the front cover of my as you can see there is three models looking directly towards the camera this is to give the effect that they are directly looking at the reader and that everything that is in the article is adressed to them. The posture of the models is stood very tall and confident, this is to enhance how confident they are with themselves and to show that they are strongminded and confident in the music buisness.When taking the photo i tried to get an outline of shadow to surround my models and this was to give the affect that they stand out about the rest. The expression i told my models to have was to be very serious and look directly at the camera to show confidence. The stly eon fashion which i tried to stick to was to be aimed at the indie genre therefor i was aiming for smart stylish t shirts and skinny jeans therefor the audience could link themselves to the band.

On the left is a photo of the world famous band green day. This is how i would of liked to have my front cover picture lay out but while in the progress of taking my photos i decided i would like all my artists on roughly the same level. Also this photo compared to my front cover photo is the artist kind of doing there own thing where as i wanted my artists to be stood with a strong tall posture to show that each band member has alot of confidence. Also having the band members all on the same level would give the effect that no one is as good as anyone else in the band and to show that they are all equal. Also in the image on the left you have a lot of background in the photo such as the car they are leaning on and also there is quite alot of the background included in this photo where as the photo i had took was right up against a wall so there wasnt much background to fit in. 

Evaluation number 3

For the distribution of my magazine i have done research in to two major distributors which are Bauer and IPC media. Choosing the right distributor is very important because this will also decide how well my magazine will sell because both magazines sell different genres of magzines and i would like my magazine to be sold by the distributor which aims for the same market as my magazine.

 

Since Bauer have previous experience with distributing music magazines some what similar to mine I think would feel safe in trusting them with being able to sell my magazine and allow it to reach my target audience. With Bauer having so many connections with TV, radio stations and online I think they would be able to make my magazine appeal to a wide audience which would allow me to feel comfortable with how my magazine would be distributed.

 

 

With my magazine being released for the first time onto the market i want to pick the best distributor which has a good history and also a good track record with my genre of music magazine. I would also like a distributor that can make my magazine available to a wide range of audience and not just by a paper magazine, maybe even distribute it through an online web page or a smart phone ap so it can be viewed and read at anytime and anywhere.

Bauer Media.

Bauer media is the distributor of one of the top UK magazines which is Kerrang! How ever eventhough this one of the top selling magazines in the UK i would not say that it has alot in comparison to my own magazine, however there could be the possibility that the same audience of Kerrang! may be interested in my magazine but if not then this may result in my magazine doing very well in the market for the first time it is to be entered. However Bauer Media do distribute there magazine through the use of radio stations and TV which allows them to appeal to wide audience and are able to advertise quite openly.

Also i think the first copy of my magazine would be given the chance on the market for example it would be very hard to compete against magazines such as Kerrang!

 IPC Media

 IPC media have a wide range of well known brands across the media industry. One of the most well known music magazine is distributed by IPC media which is 'NME'. IPC produce one of the most well known music magzines which is NME, which has a music genre which i can compare my own magazine genre too. IPC produce over 60 media brands, this allows them to reach a very large audience especially across the United Kingdom. NME magazine has a lot of similarities with my my music magazine; I feel the audience who are interested in the bands and artists featured in NME would also be very interested in mine as they are of a similar genre.

With IPC having experience with a music magazine of such similar qualities I would feel very much comfortable in trusting them with being able to distribute my magazine to my target audience. IPC also have connections with TV which means that they would be able to distribute my magazine in a range of different ways.

 

Due to the similarities that my magazine has with the magazines that IPC media distributes i would select IPC as my distributer, i have chosen this because the magazines that they distribute which have the same genre as mine are so succesfully due to a very good advertising side and they also advertise on so many different media types so therefor this would boost my magazine sales.

 

So who do I think would be best to distribute my magazine?

The audience for my media product would fit into the genre of indie and rock. A reason this genre would buy this magazine is because it fits into there taste of music such as indie music therefor they would want to buy a magzine which interested them for example in my magazine we have an interview with a indie band therefor if the audience where interested in indie music or in this band they would buy this magzine to read alot more on the band. Also they may buy my magzine to read about upcoming music events and festivals and also upcoming singles and bands therefor this would draw this genre of audience in to buy my magazine.

Here is a photo of an audience member that purchases our magazine. He is interested in indie and rock musci and this is one of the main reasons why he would buy our magzine because it gives exclusive interviews and up coming news about the latest indie bands. We aim for the type of audience that shops at stylish fashionable shops such as topman and urban outfitters, this is where alot of the bands that are included in our magzine shop at so therefor the audience can relate to certain band members and groups and copy there dress sense. This audience member listens to bands such as The Vaccines and Two Door Cinema Club which are two of the leading indie bands to this date. He is also interested any new and upcoming indie bands so overall he is most interested in indie music, so he is an ideal audience for our magazine. 

So overall the reason a audience member would buy this magzine is because it will keep the readers upto date with the latest indie and rock news so this will keep band members upto date with the latest gossip and news. Also they would also buy this magzine because they will be able to relate alot to the band members on the fashion sesnse and there interests so this will increase the relationship between them and the band members.

Evaluation number 6

Below are the programmes and equipment that i used to construct my music magazine, a few of these programmes i had already used in the past and where familiar with the basics but through out the construction i learnt new skills and learnt different techniques which would give my magazine the best look. I also learn photography skilly which i did not have before i started this task for example i learnt different ways of lighting which would give my photo and model a very effective look.

This is a camera reflector, i used this in my photo shoot increase the lighting and lighting type which i wanted to be reflected onto my models to give effects. As you can see there are different colour reflectors such as silver, white, black and gold. In my contents page main photo i used the effect of the gold reflector which gave a golden tint to my model.

To edit the photos which i had taken in my photo shoot to edit them or enhance them i used the pragramme photoshop. When using this programme i already had some experience in the basics. While using this programme i found out how to add effect to text so it stand out from the page and this was called 'Dropshadow' this helped all the text on my page stand out and really catch the audiences eye i also learnt how to adjust the levels and add brightness to my photo. Also one of my artists had a scratch down one side of his face so i learnt a new tool which was the healing brush tool which would take another part of the faces skin colour and apply it on to the top of the scratch which helped my model look alot tidier and neater.

The camera that i used in my photoshoot was an olympus camera which i attatched to a tripod so i could use the spirit level and get a straight photo also it was alot easier to turn the camera using this. With the lighting effects being used around me such as the spotlights and reflectors i did not need to use the flash so therefor i turned it off so my photo was not too bright. I found this camera very simple to use because it was quite small and practical to use therefor i could with this to my advantage i didnt spend to long adjusting camera settings so it was not very time consuming.

Survey Monkey was a webpage which i used to get people to answer my questionairre to find out what title name people liked the most and to find out what music genre was the most popular at the minute. This website was very helpful as it helped changed my results and data into charts which i then added to my work to show a percentage of what was the most popular for each question.

Evaluation number 7

Looking back at my preliminary task which was the school magazine i felt that i have learned alot more skills using programmes such as photoshop and i also feel that i have developed the skills that i already had and introduced new ways to incorporate effects to enhance my work for example on my masthead to enhance and make it stand out i used a drop shadow which embossed this line of text so it stood out among the rest of the text. Also throughout my premliminary task i discovered how to set out things such as columns and subheadings to give the magazine a good effect and to make it look alot more organised and make it look alot more professional.

This is my mast head of my school magazine, i used the font colours of red and black because these are our traditional school colours so i though i would link this part of my magzine to the school badge. i used a simple bold text for my masthead because i wanted it to be readbale and modern so it would catch the eyes of the students when they walk past a copy.

The idea i was trying to go for on the main image of my magazine was a pupil that was going to be included in the magazine  so straight away before the readers opened it they would already have a clue about what was going to be in magazine. I also edited my front cover image on photoshop because the original photo that i had taken was quite dark and dull so i adjusted the brightness and light levels to make the picture stand out alot more and also make him the main focus of the magazine front cover.
